Born 1961-06-30 · Veracruz, Mexico
Jorge Evaristo Bolado Muñoz (b. 30 June 1961), better known simply as Jorge Bolado, is a Mexican filmmaker (director, producer, and screenwriter) from Veracruz. He is best known for directing Segundo siglo (Second Century), an experimental road film and cinephile essay that follows a film crew’s journey across Mexico, the United States, and parts of the United Kingdom and Ireland as a meditation on cinema entering its second century. Bolado began making films in Super 8 as a teenager and later studied philosophy at UNAM, communication at Universidad Iberoamericana, and film direction at CCC and CUEC (without completing those programs). His early work includes shorts in 16mm, 35mm, and video, spanning from the mid-1980s through 2000. Segundo siglo was shot over several years (beginning in 1995) and completed by 1999, with a Mexican theatrical release reported in May 2002. Alongside directing, Bolado also wrote and produced the film. In parallel with his production work, he has taught film for decades and has held academic roles in film education.
