Gormican's breakout came with his directorial debut, "That Awkward Moment" (2014), a romantic comedy he wrote. The film, starring Zac Efron, Miles Teller, and Michael B. Jordan. Originally titled "Are We Officially Dating?", the screenplay garnered attention after being featured on the 2010 Hollywood Black List, highlighting the best unproduced scripts of the year. Despite mixed critical reviews, the film was a modest box office success, grossing over $16 million in its first two weeks against a budget of under $4 million. In 2022, Gormican co-wrote and directed "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent," a meta-action comedy featuring Nicolas Cage as a fictionalised version of himself.
